Houston moving questions, answered
General
How much do movers cost in Houston?
Local movers usually charge $130 to $230 per hour for a truck and 2 to 4 movers. A 2 bedroom apartment often takes 3 to 5 hours. You get a written not-to-exceed price first.
Do you charge for the truck?
Yes. We add a truck and travel fee, shown on your quote. Time starts when we arrive and ends when we finish unloading.
Are you licensed to move?
Yes. Household goods movers in Texas must register with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) and show their number on trucks and ads (demo license). We carry cargo insurance too.
What if something gets broken?
Tell us within 90 days and we file a claim. We respond in writing within 23 days. Full value protection with no deductible is an optional add-on.
What should I do before move day?
Pack boxes, label rooms, and set aside valuables. Our checklist in your portal walks you through it.
Local moves
How much do local movers cost in Houston?
Prices vary by crew size and time. Local crews often charge by the hour for movers and a truck, and customers on review sites have reported about $180 for the first two hours for two movers. Get a written proposal.
Is the price a flat rate?
We give a not-to-exceed proposal. You pay the actual time up to that limit.
Do I tip the crew?
It is not required. Many customers tip for hard days.
What should I have ready?
Boxes packed and taped, furniture emptied of loose items and a clear path to the truck.
Packing and unpacking
Can you pack just the kitchen?
Yes. Kitchen packing is a common add-on.
Do you bring boxes?
Yes. Boxes and supplies are included in the quote.
Will packed items be covered if damaged?
Coverage depends on the valuation level you choose. Ask before you sign.
Do you pack valuables like jewelry?
We prefer you carry cash, jewelry and papers yourself.
Loading only
Do you load pods and containers?
Yes. Tell us the size and where it is parked.
Do you bring pads and straps?
Yes. Pads, straps and a dolly are on the truck.
Is there a minimum?
Usually two hours. Your proposal shows the minimum.
Can you also unload?
Yes. Unload-only help is a separate option.
Unloading only
Can you unload a container?
Yes. Tell us the container size and where it will sit.
Do you assemble furniture?
Yes. Beds and tables are reassembled.
Do you remove empty boxes?
We can for a small fee.
Do I need to be there?
Yes. Someone should be on site to direct where things go.
Apartment and townhome moves
Do you give a certificate of insurance?
Yes. Ask early so the building can approve your move date.
Can you move on the 1st or end of the month?
Yes, but those dates fill quickly. Book early.
Do you handle stairs?
Yes. Stairs add time, so tell us the floors.
What about parking?
We tell you what permits or spaces to reserve.
Pianos, safes and heavy items
Do you move grand pianos?
We quote them by the job and may refer them to a piano specialist.
Can you move a safe up stairs?
Often yes. Heavy safes may need extra crew or a hoist.
Will you take the item apart?
We do when it is safe and needed, and we reassemble it.
What if a heavy item is damaged?
Tell us right away. Coverage depends on the valuation level in your proposal.
Cost
Why do movers charge by the hour?
Time is the main cost: crew and truck time. A not-to-exceed proposal caps the total.
Are there hidden fees?
A written proposal lists truck, travel and supplies. Changes on move day need a signed amendment.
Is insurance included?
Movers carry cargo insurance, and valuation coverage is separate. Ask what each covers.
Should I get more than one quote?
Yes. Compare proposals, not just hourly rates.
